Becoming a Creative Young Musician! The Music Tales program awakens the love for learning music in your Kindergarteners.

The Music Tales program, ages 4.5-5.5 years old, is a wonderful way to introduce and shape your child’s budding music skills. The class capacity is eight students with parent participation. Music Tales is a 3-book series that will take your child through a journey of character-building stories and engaging, fun classroom activities! The 50-minute class stress note reading and playing development in the treble and bass clef. Students and parents learn ear training, singing, performance, and composition understanding skills. A group recital is held after the completion of each book.

A keyboard or piano is needed to work on during the 20-week course. A group recital is held after each book.

Music Tales Book 1

Explores five-note reading in both the treble and bass clef, as well as ear training, keyboard playing and singing play. Group singing, movement, rhythm games, board reading, and storytelling keep classes exciting and motivating for this age group.

Music goals for book 1:

  • Introduction of finger exercises using do, re, mi, fa, and sol
  • Introduction of reading notes do, re, mi, fa, and sol in treble and bass clefs
  • Simple rhythm notation
  • Introduction to basic music theory and terms
  • Ear training and singing exercises based on do, re, mi, fa, and sol

Music Tales Book 2 (*Prerequisite Book 1 )

In this next book, your child will advance in their playing ability, note reading in both treble and bass clef reading, and using two hands. Students in this class will continue to work on more challenging music theory concepts and rhythm.

Music goals for book 2:

  • Recognition of reading notes in treble and bass clefs
  • Simple music notation in treble and bass clefs
  • Recognition of simple singing patterns using do, re, mi, fa, sol, and la.
  • More advanced music and rhythm terms
  • Recognition of two phrases by ear using do, re, mi, fa, sol, and la
  • More challenging ear training, music theory, and rhythm patterns

Music Tales Book 3 Class(*Prerequisite Book 2 )

Enables your child to combine a strong harmonic and melodic understanding of music in two Major keys. This piano class further stresses more complex understanding in note reading, keyboard playing, ear training, theory, and singing. Graduating students will advance to the final group piano series called LaRue McDoosen.
Music goals for book 3:

  • Advanced note reading and playing in two major keys
  • Introduction to harmonic and melodic sounds
  • Finger exercises in scales and chords
  • More advanced ear training and singing using do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, and ti

Advanced Keyboard Classes (*Prerequisite Music Tales 3 )

LaRue McDoosen Books Series 1, 2 and 3

Get Ready to Develops the Composer in your Child. This final advanced three-book group series, LaRue McDoosen, is centered around an ambitious girl named LaRue. Each 60-minute class enhances your child’s interest and love for music. As an added benefit, the written stories contained in these books work academically to improve reading skills, vocabulary, and comprehension.
In this three-semester series, a parent or guardian must still participate. Classes are limited to eight students. Students will better understand reading and playing in three Major keys, a minor key, chordal reading, and transposing. Emphasis is placed on written theory, ear training, and sight-singing. The successful completion of book 3 will enable students to continue to private lessons at a skill level of two or higher. A group recital is held after the completion of each book.

LaRue McDoosen piano classes in Sherman Oaks and Pasadena.

LaRue McDoosen 2 & 3 Piano Lesson Program (*Pre-requisite Book 1 )

Students in book 1 will read and play more advanced songs based in Sol position (G Major), while employing musical expression, advance rhythm patterns and chord progressions.
Books 2 and 3 are written in four keys; Do, Sol, Fa Major, and La minor. These last two levels continue incorporating more advanced written theory, note reading, composition, rhythm understanding, articulation, chord reading, keyboard playing, and ear training. The successful completion of book 3 will enable students to play in private method books starting at level 2 or higher.
